“Divya Nagari – A Great Transformation Project” initiated by Brahma Kumaris, Divya Darshan Bhavan, Navrangpura, Ahmedabad stepped in Phase-II on Monday, 8th June, 2015.
A cultural program was organized for Divya Nagari slum children and their parents at Divya Darshan Bhavan. To grace the occasion, Ahmedabad Municipal Commissioner Sister D. Thara, IAS was present as Chief Guest. Gujarat Zone In-Charge of Brahma Kumaris Rajyogini Sarla Didi, Prof. Harishbhai Shukla (National Coordinator, Education Wing, Brahma Kumaris), Popular T.V. Actress Bhavini Jani, Navrangpura Centre In-Charge and Executive Director of Divya Nagari project B.K. Ishitaben, Project Director of Divya Nagari project B.K. CA. Lalitbhai (Mount Abu), CA. Gautambhai Choksi (Founder, Udgam school), CA. Nirenbhai Nagari (Past Chairman- CA Association Ahmedabad and Past President – ICAI Ahmedabad Branch), Mafa Dada, Bhikhiben and many other social workers blessed them with their motivational words. Wonderful cultural activities by children who are being educated daily since last 6 months impressed all the guests and specially their parents. School bag, Lunch box, Stationary kit, Water bottle, Compass box, Notebooks, Namkeen, Sweet Prasad and Chocolates were being distributed to all the children.
Municipal Commissioner handed over special gifts to 7 bright starts who have excelled in their exams. Further, she expressed extreme happiness by seeing the transformation in these children and encouraged their parents for giving support to this activity. She emphasised and said that “…It is very good that slum children have joined the Divya Nagari Project with Brahma Kumaris. The way they (Brahma Kumaris) are putting efforts for your upliftment is remarkable. I guess now parents also realize that their children have drastically changed after joining this beautiful act of God. You all (Slum people) were seeking help and God has send these people (Brahma Kumaris) as instruments to help you…”.
In Phase-I, we have observed dramatic change in the habits of these Divya Nagari Children. Around 80% children stopped using abusing words and 75% children dropped the habit of chewing tobacco. In the short span of 6 months, by keeping them engage in educational and constructive activities like crafting, drawing summer camp, singing, dancing, educational tour and other value based activities have led to the building of strong foundation of the present change. Moving ahead towards Phase-II, we are aiming towards educating illiterate elders and 4 Medical camps for better health of slum dwellers of the Divya Nagari people along with providing education to children.
